Food in the Dordogne River Valley

The Dordogne is famous for foie gras, truffles, and Bergerac wines, among other things. The markets in the area are always bursting with local delights, and each brasserie and bistro has a story to tell. Here are some favorites, but we encourage you to discover your own!

Dining in the Dordogne

Au Marché

Sarlat-la-Caneda

The market is held twice a week in the historic part of the town of Sarlat-la-Caneda, about a ten minute drive from La Vue d’Or. Local vendors set up stalls in and around Place de la Liberte from morning until around 1pm on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

Saint-Cyprien

On Sundays, the freshest fare can be found in the historic heart of Saint-Cyprien, a colorful and bustling village on a hill. There’s a huge variety of goods, and you’re advised to arrive early; as most shops and restaurants are closed on Sundays, this market may be your only chance to find ingredients!
